About Our Courses

SoundMind is accredited to deliver Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses, Breathworks 'Living Well' courses for those suffering with pain, stress and illness and the Mindfulness in Schools Project curricula. Our 8 week courses are recognised as a prerequisite for teacher training in mindfulness for adults and schools.

Mindfulness for Stress

This programme is for those dealing with stress of any kind, as well as for those wishing to improve the quality of their everyday life and develop a sense of inner peace. We not only teach you ways to reduce stress, but also ways to become more ‘stress-hardy’ and resilient, so you will be less thrown by life’s difficulties.

During the course you will learn:
  • Mindfulness meditations including: mindfulness of breathing, kindness and compassion practices, the body scan and mindful eating.
  • Breath awareness.
  • Body awareness and relaxation.
  • Gentle mindful movement.
  • Practical skills to manage stress in daily life.

Mindfulness for Health

The Breathworks Mindfulness for Health course is a multi-facetted approach to easing the suffering associated with persistent pain, fatigue and ill health. This programme is based on research-tested mindfulness methods and evolved from the personal experience of Breathworks founder, Vidyamala Burch who has used mindfulness to manage severe chronic spinal pain for twenty-five years.

During the course you will learn:
  • How to apply mindfulness to manage pain, illness and fatigue in daily life.
  • Mindfulness meditation practices.
  • Breath awareness.
  • Body awareness and relaxation.
  • Gentle mindful movement.
  • Pacing strategies to avoid boom & bust cycles.
  • Cultivating kindliness towards yourself and empathy for others.

You will also have the opportunity to meet others living with similar experiences of pain and ill health. Breathworks Pain and Illness courses have helped people with chronic back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, cancer, ME, multiple sclerosis and many other conditions. This list is not exhaustive and we welcome your enquiry whatever your condition.

There was a lightness to the atmosphere even though matters could get serious. Discussions were led with openness and gentle humour. The course was a big wake up call to more fully realise that I have choice in my own life!

Mindfulness in Education

A growing number of schools and universities are now introducing mindfulness to enhance the wellbeing of both students and staff. We currently offer our 8 week mindfulness course in-house for teachers, both in response to increasing stress levels amongst staff and as a prerequisite to teaching mindfulness to young people.

We are also trained to deliver the .b (dot-be) Mindfulness in Schools programme for students. This 9-lesson course was written by experienced classroom teachers and mindfulness practitioners and can be used in a wide range of contexts and for diverse ages, including adults. The course offers a way into mindfulness that is fun, accessible and of genuine use in daily life.

.b aims to help students:
  • Feel happier, calmer and more fulfilled.
  • Get on better with others.
  • Improve concentration, learning and focus.
  • Work with difficult mental states.
  • Cope with everyday stresses and strains of life.

In addition, we are trained to deliver .b foundations, an 8 week training specifically designed for teachers, staff and parents who wish to learn the foundations of mindfulness. Rhythm in Mind Courses

'Rhythm in Mind' is a unique course that brings together samba drumming, rhythm and mindfulness approaches.

Drumming & Mindfulness? Really?

Drumming has been shown to reduce stress levels, boost the immune system and promote an overall sense of wellbeing. The experience of drumming together is not only beneficial in reducing stress levels and ‘letting off steam’ but also allows us to explore how we are working together as a group and provides a practical way of experiencing mindfulness in action.
